habits I’m working on this august

Happy August! For me this is a transition month and I’ve got to start finding things for the apartment etc when I go back to Boston. There are some small things I want to focus on to optimize my routine and should help w/ the transition back to school.

Getting up with my alarm.

Summer at home means I’ve had no serious morning commitments except the ones I schedule myself like workouts & my morning routine. It’s been nice to wake up naturally but I want to get back in the habit of starting my day when my alarm goes off. With this also comes getting enough sleep Ideally, I can wake up naturally a liiiittle earlier than my alarm so I don’t have to use it. Those are the best mornings. I’ve also been looking at a Hatch Alarm Clock for the apartment I loveee the idea of it.

Reading

I have a long list of nonfiction books to get through so I really want to commit to reading each day. I have a bit more time this summer so I want to use it to my advantage. It’s so nice to have some quiet time before starting the day. I’m about to finish reading The Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchaupsé and I love it. I enjoy learning about nutrition so this book brought in a new perspective regarding my eating habits.

Time blocking my days

Generally, I love routine. I want to make my life a little easier by scheduling workouts at the same time each day and time blocking any work. That way, there’s less day to day decisions and things I need to think about the day of. On an ideal day I’ve been going for a walk or run in the morning around 9 am and follow with a strength workout. I think this will be good to start implementing now because I now I’ll rely on it once the school year begins. More to come on organizing for school also! I’ve been using Notion again more recently to organize my life.

Stretching

I followed this Alo video the other day since I was feeling low energy and it was amazing. It reminded me that I need to be stretching more often too. I’m naturally flexible which I take for granted – it was never something I needed to work on/practice for cheer or dance. But, I want to start stretching before bed as part of my evening routine.

Here’s a recap –

  1. Getting up with my alarm
  2. Morning reading
  3. Timeblocking
  4. Stretching

LMK what habits you’re working on!
