design your life: creating a vision board

Okay I’m so excited to write about this. I just made a vision board for fall since I’m going back to Boston soon. I was looking forward to being back at school, but when I was making my board I got excited about all the opportunities I have this semester. I love creating a vision board seasonally because it reminds me of my goals daily, of where I see myself in the future. And, it’s fun to make one. I’ll take you through the process of how I create a vision board that

  • represents my current goals
  • inspires my daily actions
  • aligns with my long term vision

Here are my tips

Select A Time Frame

Like I said above, I just made a vision board for Fall 2023. I also have one for 2023 in general. For me, it’s been fun to make these seasonally. This way your goals will be reflected and you’re working toward the ‘vision’ in a set amount of time. If this is your first board it may be best to start out with a longer term vision.

Review & Update Your Goals

I think goal setting for the time period can be helpful when you’re trying to visualize your life over the next specified period. I’ve used some of Tori Sterling’s journaling tips to get clear on my vision – I recommend listening to one of her podcast episodes where she talks about it.

Create a Pinterest board

The fun part! Now that you know what you’re working toward, find some photos that match the vibe. Here’s my recent board. I always include quotes too. You can also skip this step and just search images and save them directly to your computer, but I like having the board to look back at later on. To find the right images I’ll look up “Boston aesthetic”, “wellness lifestyle aesthetic”, “journaling aesthetic”, “study aesthetic neutral”.

Design your Vision Board

Add your favorite images from interest and either create a physical or digital board. I always include photos that represent my goals for the period and quotes I love. Usually I’ll make mine on Canva fitted to my computer screen, but you can use Google Drawings or Adobe Illustrator as well. When making a physical board for my dorm last year, I printed images at CVS and taped them to the area above my desk – Also a

Make it your own

Really, don’t hold back because nobody needs to see your vision board unless you want them to. It’s your source of inspiration and doesn’t need to make sense to anyone – some of the things I added to mine honestly don’t and I just added them because they’re funny to me. Some of the things I added have a different meaning to me personally. It doesn’t need to be over the top and curated – it just needs to work for you.

I think I’ll make another post about visualization & journaling related to this! Stay tuned
